Mapfix and Map Tools for Newcomers

In 2015, during an event called Refugee Hackathon, developers and designers came together to create open-source applications for refugees and the aiding society.

After participating in the Maptools (App: Mapfix) project, I designed user experiences and infographics with geographic maps. My creative directing and management of the project during the first event were eventually asked for repeatedly in other institutes. The resulting workshop series migrated from the Refugee Hackathon to the House of World Cultures, to the Migration Hub (later the Migration Hub Network), and Networkin' Europe in Berlin and Brussels.

The workshop groups had between six and 20 participants. In addition to teaching design thinking methods, I shared the results of interviews and statistical evaluations developed during the 2015 hackathon.

Tools used: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Zeplin, GitHub
Materials used: Image material such as icons and photos, provided by my workshop participants and co-creators of the Refugeehackathon
